Women on Wheels - listening session with women who cycle in Dublin
Why do you think only 30% of cyclists in Dublin are women? What factors are holding us back? What would encourage more women to get on two wheels around the city? What sort of planning do you do when you plot a route around the city?
Join Dublin Cycling Campaign for a listening session about street harassment of women who cycle, as part of our research supported by the Community Foundation.
In this first stage, we are scoping out the experience of women who cycle in Dublin, gathering ideas which will help us to frame the research. If you are a woman who cycles, please join in and share your experience of cycling in Dublin.
The listening session will start at 12.30 pm, we’ll wrap up at approximately 2.30 pm, with sessions starting at around 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm. We’ll have teas and coffees on hand.
We have organised the listening event to follow the Liffey Cycle, a cycle along the Quays organised by Dublin Cycling Campaign, starting that morning, at Grand Canal Dock at 11 am. If you’re not taking part in the Liffey Cycle, feel free to come along as well, all contributions are welcome.
Will there be cake? Definitely.
Will I be interviewed? This is a scoping exercise, we’ll be talking in groups and sharing ideas. We won’t be asking probing questions about your experience. We’re not trained to respond to trauma, we’ll be organising a general conversation about our experiences of cycling in the city.
What should I do if I feel uncomfortable? If anyone feels uncomfortable during the discussion, feel free to get some cake, re-fill on tea or take some time out.
Will there be men around? At a later stage, we’ll be inviting men to share their experiences of cycling in Dublin. The event on the 12th of August will be women-only.
Can I bring my children? We will have a colouring corner for children, but please note that they will be your responsibility at all times while you are at the workshop.
