Activist Workshops - Get Involved in the Campaign!
Want to get more involved in Dublin Cycling Campaign but not sure how? You’re in luck!
At our AGM in July we presented our new Strategic Plan for 2017-2020. As an outcome of our plan, we have formed working groups which are focused on achieving our strategic aims. These groups are addressing cycling infrastructure, public policy, public perception of cycling, and improving how Dublin Cycling Campaign operates.
The working groups are in their infancy and we are encouraging all members to get involved in one, or all, of the groups that align with their interests. For November’s monthly public meeting, we will be holding a workshopping session where members can find out more about the Campaign strategy, see what the different groups are working on, and hopefully get involved in at least one working group.
The Infrastructure Group: The aim of this group is to improve our roads and public spaces to enable and encourage walking and cycling. One of the first tasks the group is undertaking is to outline the processes and systems in which infrastructure is developed and disseminate good cycling design standards and practices in a simplified and accessible format for all volunteers. Knowledge is Power!
The Public Policy Group aims to improve public policies and law enforcement for the benefit of people who walk and cycle. The group is initially focusing on two elements: Firstly, gathering data to enable us to show how much a modal-shift to cycling will bring to society; and secondly, looking at effective enforcement of traffic laws that impact on the cycling experience.
The Perception Group wants to promote cycling as a normal, joyful aspect of everyday life. The group will tackle the myths and misconceptions about cycling while also promoting the many benefits. The group is currently categorising and prioritising its targets.
The Organisation Group aims to grow Dublin Cycling Campaign as a strong voice for people who want to cycle. It is currently focusing on volunteer and member engagement, organisation governance, communication strategy, and a new initiative on member testimonials. They’re also organising this year’s Dublin Cycling Campaign Christmas party.
Want to try out some of these working groups before committing? Well that’s exactly what this month’s public meeting is about. Each of the groups will be open and available to all members and we really want people to get involved - that’s what the creation of the working groups is all about!
