Help us fund an Official Bicycle for Dublin’s Lord Mayor!

Every year Dublin’s Lord Mayor receives a shiny new “official” car, courtesy of a major car dealership or car sales group. The car is used for the Lord Mayor’s many official engagements but, while there may be a genuine need for the car sometimes, it’s simply not the most efficient way to get around Dublin.

To this end, Dublin Cycling Campaign is raising funds to provide an Official Bicycle to Dublin’s Lord Mayor, to help him get to his engagements in a more efficient, healthy, convenient and enjoyable way.

Dublin is fast becoming a cycling city, with tens of thousands of people cycling into the city centre every day of the week. The Lord Mayor should be setting an example to his fellow Dubliners on how easy it is to choose cycling as a transport option for getting around the city.

In June 2019, Dublin will host Velo-city, an international cycling conference, with thousands of cycling and urbanism experts descending on the city. As this event is hosted by Dublin City Council, and wouldn’t it be great if the Lord Mayor could cycle down to the Convention Centre, on his own official bicycle, to officially open this week-long conference?

The Dutch Bike Shop in Clonskeagh is supporting our initiative and has kindly agreed to provide one of its perfectly adapted Gazelle city bikes at cost price.

Please give as much or as little as you can, and hopefully we’ll be able to hand over the official bicycle to Dublin’s Lord Mayor next month.
