Please make a brief submission supporting this junction upgrade!

The City Council are requesting public feedback on designs to upgrade the junction at Suir Road and Davitt Road, putting in cycle lanes and managing traffic movements better. The plans show a real improvement of an INCREDIBLY hostile, dangerous and anti-walking/cycling junction.

But local Councillors are getting pressure from drivers, saying they may suffer congestion delays — and the Councillors are caving in! They’re trying to destroy or delay the upgrade.

Don’t let them! Click here to check out the Council’s plans, and to make a brief submission saying you SUPPORT the upgrade, the EVIDENCE supports the benefits of making walking and cycling easier — even the Luas will be facilitated by the junction — and the Council should be courageous and start construction SOON!

Dublin Cycling campaign welcomes and supports this proposed re-alignment of the Suir Road junction, to make it safer and more logical for all road users, with improved signal sequencing. However we have a number of suggestions for overall improvement:

• Make cycle pathway to Grand Canal route west clearer by removing (part of) existing barrier on canal adjacent to LUAS line
• Make main junction crossings 2 way for cyclists
• Re-align cycle exit from shared pathway on to Slievenamon Road to avoid oncoming traffic
• Include raised tables on side road crossings
• Consider if the role of the Bus Gate is justified?
• Consider the incorporation of the new landscape area into the existing Good Counsel Park
