Serious concerns for pedestrians and cyclists in MetroLink plans

A major €3-€4billion metro project for Dublin City has just been through a non-statutory public consultation process.

The Dublin Cycling Campaign volunteer team put together a comprehensive submission that was also highly critical of a number of factors around the proposed scheme:

• A foreshortened consultation period for a project of this importance and size - the consultation period was a mere nominal 6 weeks, although the NTA website only advertised the process from mid-April, after representations from Dublin Cycling Campaign

• No consideration of the potential value of boosting future passenger numbers and the overall business case, by including state of the art bike parking at any new stations to encourage multi-modal travel

• No consideration of encouraging bicycle carriage, particularly at off peak periods, similar to DART and mainline trains

• Disregard at many stations and existing crossings for pedestrian and bicycle permeability

Dublin Cycling Campaign is generally supportive of any proposed metro scheme, but there needs to be serious improvements for pedestrians and cyclists in the MetroLink plans. Our full submission can be read in the attached PDF
