Yesterday Dublin City Council published a report which recommended the implementation of interim cycle safety measures ahead of the permanent Liffey Cycle Route. This would involve the installation of temporary measures such as bollards, road markings, orcas and signal changes. The Council Executive estimates the interim route could be in place by August of this year.

The report will be put to Dublin City Councillors for approval at the next monthly Council meeting which takes place next Monday 2nd March.

Dublin Cycling Campaign is supportive of the proposed trial and we are asking our members and supporters to contact their local Councillors ahead of next Monday’s meeting and ask them to support the proposal. These interim measures are not perfect but they will bring substantial safety benefits.

It is important to note that the trial is only an interim measure - it is not the finished article! The permanent Liffey Cycle Route is not predicted to be completed until at least 2024, mainly due to the complexity of the proposed project: New boardwalks, dealing with historic quay walls & bridges, lengthy planning process etc.
