2010-05-05 Engineers Ireland Seminar: Cycling: The Smarter Travel Mode

http://www.engineersireland.ie/cpd/cpd-training/courses/roadsandtransportationseminarmay52010/
Overview
The Government’s Smarter Travel Strategy has identified a need to significantly reduce the modal share of the private car for transport in Ireland by 2020. Cycling is increasingly being viewed as the most attractive means of effecting this vision, and also entails the dual advantages of lack of carbon emissions and health benefits.
Cycling’s modal share has increased significantly in recent years, particularly in Dublin, and this trend looks set to continue. The increased uptake has added pressure on policy makers and designers to provide a coherent, safe and attractive cycling network.
With growing interest in cycling generally, and the imminent publication of the new National Cycle Manual, Engineers Ireland’s Roads & Transportation Society is delighted to present this seminar as a forum for information dissemination and discussion.
There will be plenty of interest to both policy makers and designers, with a full programme and a range of expert speakers covering all aspects of cycle policy and design practice both in Ireland and internationally.
