Monthly Public Meeting - Bicycle Recycling Projects for Young People

Monday, 9 June 2014 (All day)
8pm, Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2 - All Welcome

This month we will hear about two bike programmes for young people. Mike Cowman of Bradog will tell us about the INDY (Inner-City North Dublin Youth) Bikes Programme. This is run by local young people as part of the Irish Youth Foundation and supported by Bradog Youth Service. The programme’s objective is to engage children and young people (aged 10–21) from a typical tough Inner City community and introduce them to the world of bikes: Maintenance; building new bikes from old frames; learning about fitness, health and environmental benefits of cycling; Developing local leaders and role models. The project is one of the charities for the 2014 Tour de Picnic sponsored cycle to Electric Picnic.

Roger Warburton will talk about the Rediscover Cycling bicycle reuse project in Ballymun. The aims of Rediscover Cycling are to promote both reuse and cycling as enjoyable eco-friendly activities and provide training and work experience opportunities to priority groups. Rediscover Cycling is a partnership project with Rothar and operates by reconditioning, servicing and upcycling bicycles that would otherwise end up in landfill.

Plus hear about our plans for a week long Phoenix Park Bicycle Festival during Bikeweek and how you can get involved.
