National Cycle Manual

The current guidance for designing for cyclists is the 1997 DTO Cycle Manual. It is generally regarded as obsolete and not fit for purpose. The Dublin Transportation Office (DTO) began a review of the 1997 Manual in 2002 and the drafting of its replacement. It continued this work until its replacement with the National Transport Authority in 2009. In November 2009 the new NTA released this Draft National Cycle Manual for Public Consultation. A committee of volunteers from Cyclist.ie: Ireland’s National Cyclist Lobby Group reviewed the 512 page draft and made a submission to the Public Consultation. The Executive Summary follows:
